Jam-Wah doesn’t do anything remarkably original or novel, but he does it and does it well. Give props where props are due I say!

Lamborghini Ankonian makes Batmobile look lame

lamborghini-ankonian-concept

Here’s something on my Christmas list. It’s the Lamborghini Ankonian. Why oh why are the coolest cars just concept cars? Well, to answer my own question, because they’d be too expensive for me to buy. Sure you can pump out one or two for the crime fighting billionaires out there, but until we have a caped crusader, there just isn’t the demand. Rev your engines and view the full gallery.

Illustrator Joshua Middleton’s use of color, lighting, and figure provide his depictions of comic book icons with a sense of intimate realism. When viewing his artwork, we see the characters as though through the lens of a real world camera. To put it plainly, his characters seem unaware of being viewed, and this lends a humanness I’ve not seen in other works. Add to that his use of lighting, which further draws out the characters and environments from the page, and you have an amazing collection of artwork. Just incredible.

Well done, sir, now post more stuff in your store!

Featured local artist: Ron Catiggay

stripmall

Local boy, Ron Catiggay is used to working in the background. He’s so good at it in fact, he’s worked on backgrounds for Batman, Batman and Robin, Justice League, and other animated series. Looking at his portfolio, you can see why.

I recently met Ron through a co-worker. He no longer works as a concept artist on animated shows since he moved back home to Hawai‘i from California, but he does continue his work for fun (albeit in his garage). In my full-blown geekdom, I praised him for his work and he genuinely was a bit taken aback. It didn’t occur to him, it seems, that he’s deserving of fanboy appreciation.

Well, I think he does deserve attention, so please check out his portfolio and maybe leave him a comment or two.
